Morocco is accelerating preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with plans to complete construction of a 115,000-seater stadium in Benslimane near Casablanca by 2027.
The stadium, set to be one of the largest in the world, is expected to cost up to 5 billion dirhams ($500 million).
Fouzi Lekjaa, chairman of Morocco’s World Cup organizing committee, announced the ambitious timeline during a meeting with members of the Moroccan employers federation (CGEM).
Prior to commencing work on the Benslimane stadium, Morocco will focus on upgrading and expanding existing stadiums in Rabat and Tangier within the next two months.
Furthermore, the country is undertaking significant infrastructure projects, including the expansion of its high-speed train network and the upgrade of airports in key cities like Casablanca, Tangier, Rabat, and Fez.
Morocco, co-hosting the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, is committed to delivering a world-class tournament and is making significant strides towards achieving this goal.
