Leg-spinner Rashid Khan delivered a devastating spell, claiming six wickets in a row, to put Afghanistan on the brink of victory in the second and final Test against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
Zimbabwe, chasing a challenging target, were reeling at 205-8 at stumps on day four, still needing 72 runs to win.
Rashid, who had already impressed in the first innings with four wickets, proved to be a thorn in Zimbabwe’s side, finishing the day with remarkable figures of 6-66.
Earlier, Ismat Alam, playing in his maiden Test, contributed a crucial century (101) to propel Afghanistan to a substantial first-innings lead.
The Zimbabwean resistance was led by captain Craig Ervine, who remained unbeaten on 53 at the close of play. However, Rashid’s devastating spell has left the hosts facing a daunting task on the final day.
This victory, if achieved, would be a significant milestone for Afghanistan, marking their first Test win since defeating Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi four years ago.
