South African Kruyswijk claims Kenya open victory

South Africa’s Jacques Kruyswijk claimed his maiden European Tour title at the Kenya Open, holding off a strong challenge from England’s John Parry to win by two shots.

Kruyswijk, who has been a consistent performer on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa, had struggled to break through on the European Tour until this week.

This victory marks a significant milestone in his career and secures his place on the tour for the foreseeable future.

Kruyswijk, 32, began the final round at Muthaiga Golf Club with a one-shot lead, but Parry quickly erased that with birdies on the fourth and fifth holes.

However, Kruyswijk responded with birdies of his own on the sixth and seventh, regaining the lead and maintaining his composure to finish with a bogey-free weekend and a winning score of 18 under par.

The Muthaiga Golf Club, known for its challenging layout and fast greens, proved a tough test for the field.

“It’s special. I’m happy that I can keep the trophy on African soil and obviously bring it back to South Africa. It makes me very proud,” said Kruyswijk.

“I’m super proud of myself with the mindset I’ve had this week and the way I’ve played this golf course. What can I say? I’m happy.”

Parry, who has enjoyed a strong start to the season with a win and two second-place finishes in Africa, finished in solo second place at 16 under. “Jacques played incredibly well, especially under pressure,” Parry commented.

“My putter wasn’t quite hot enough today, but I’m pleased with my overall performance.”

Deon Germishuys finished three shots further back in third, while fellow South African Jayden Schaper took fourth place. Several other prominent players, including [mention a name or two if applicable], also finished in the top ten.
