Uganda taps Sharma as coach for T20 World Cup debut

The Ugandan Cricket Association (UCA) has appointed Indian cricket veteran Abhay Sharma as the new head coach of their men’s national team.

Sharma will lead the “Cricket Cranes” in their historic debut at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States and West Indies from June 1st.

This marks a significant moment for Ugandan cricket, with Sharma’s three-year contract signifying the team’s commitment to long-term growth.

The UCA praised Sharma’s “wealth of knowledge and expertise,” highlighting his experience coaching India A, India U-19s, the Indian women’s team, and the Delhi Ranji Trophy team.

The 54-year-old Sharma expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge, stating his desire to contribute to the team’s ambitions, which include “defeating the top sides in the world” at the World Cup.

He also acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in fielding, indicating a focus on sharpening the team before the global showpiece.
