Ugandan distance running star Jacob Kiplimo shattered the men’s half-marathon world record on Sunday, clocking an astonishing 56 minutes and 41 seconds at a road race in Barcelona.
The 24-year-old obliterated the previous record of 57:30, set by Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha in Valencia last year, by a remarkable 49 seconds.
World Athletics hailed Kiplimo’s performance as a “historic achievement,” noting that the ideal weather conditions – 13 degrees Celsius with no wind – contributed to his exceptional time.
Kiplimo, who won a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, demonstrated incredible strength and endurance throughout the race, showcasing his dominance in the world of distance running.
“This is an incredible achievement,” said Kiplimo after the race.
“I felt strong throughout the race and I am thrilled to have broken the world record. It was a perfect day for running.”
Kiplimo’s record-breaking performance is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication.
It also highlights the continued evolution of distance running and the remarkable feats that athletes are capable of achieving.
