ADB and UNICEF launch Sudan water project

The African Development Bank Group and UNICEF have launched a $54 million project to restore water services in General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s junta-led Port Sudan region.

The initiative aims to provide safe water to up to 750,000 people, including many families displaced by conflict.

Local water supplies currently meet less than 40 percent of demand, raising the risk of waterborne diseases.

The project will repair damaged water infrastructure and improve sanitation services for about 200,000 people.

UNICEF will lead implementation in Port Sudan and support conflict-affected communities in North and South Kordofan.
