Sudan’s Sovereignty Council chair Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has replaced the country’s top police leadership, continuing a broader security overhaul set in motion since the conflict began.
A police statement said Lt Gen Amir Abdel Moneim Fadl was appointed Director-General of Police, succeeding First Lt Gen Khaled Hassan Mohi al-Din. Lt Gen Tahir Mohamed al-Balula was named deputy director-general, replacing Lt Gen Mohamed Ibrahim Awadallah.
Fadl previously headed Khartoum State police during the war and steps into a role defined by severe challenges in the capital, where state facilities have been ransacked and armed groups continue to endanger civilians.
The move follows a major shake-up in the SAF’s high command days earlier — the first significant leadership changes since the fighting erupted.
