A Doctors Without Borders official warned that funding shortages and restricted access are delaying urgent medical aid deliveries across conflict-hit Sudan.
Ongoing fighting has disrupted healthcare and basic services, leaving civilians increasingly vulnerable as humanitarian organisations struggle to sustain emergency operations.
Emergency director Esperanza Santos said the humanitarian response remains far below growing needs, with limited funding forcing aid groups to reduce services and operations.
She stressed that sustained financial support is essential to maintain medical programmes and reach remote communities most affected by the conflict.
Access remains a major obstacle due to insecurity and bureaucratic restrictions, isolating large areas and preventing aid delivery and proper needs assessments.
Santos warned that women face heightened risks as collapsing healthcare systems and disrupted maternity services leave many without life-saving care.
Doctors Without Borders continues operating in Sudan despite challenges, but Santos urged urgent international action to ensure safe, unhindered humanitarian access nationwide.
