The Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid al-Nur, reaffirmed on Sunday its rejection of dialogue proposed by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
A delegation headed by al-Nur met UN Secretary-General’s envoy Pekka Haavisto in Nairobi to discuss Sudan’s ongoing crisis and possible paths forward.
The movement said Burhan’s initiative merely sought legitimacy for his 2021 coup, likening it to Omar al-Bashir’s earlier “National Dialogue.”
Genuine progress, the delegation argued, demands comprehensive talks only after hostilities cease across the war-torn nation.
Such talks, they insisted, should exclude solely the National Congress Party, the Islamic Movement, and any parties refusing to join.
By contrast, the delegation welcomed the Quartet’s initiative, calling it a solid foundation for resolving Sudan’s deepening conflict.
It voiced reservations about the Quintet’s performance, noting that representatives behind Sudan’s Declaration of Principles had formally relayed these concerns in writing.
