Bahri police rescue three-year-old girl from alleged torture in Khartoum

Police in Bahri, north of Khartoum, have rescued a three-year-old girl who was allegedly tortured, burned and locked inside a bathroom by her maternal aunt and the aunt’s husband in the Samrab area.

The case was first reported by Al-Rakoba and later confirmed in a statement by Khartoum State Police, which said detectives from the Droushab police station intervened after receiving a report from a female neighbour who allegedly saw the abuse through the window of her home.

According to police, prosecutors issued a search warrant that allowed investigators to enter the property, arrest the two suspects and recover the child, who was found in critical condition.

The girl was transferred to intensive care at the Medical Corps Hospital in Omdurman, where reports said her condition remained unstable.

Initial investigations found that the child’s mother is divorced and works in Omdurman. She had reportedly been sending money to her sister to care for the girl, unaware that her daughter was allegedly being subjected to abuse.

Police said the case has been amended to include charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and breach of the legal duty of care toward a vulnerable person. Investigations are continuing before the suspects are referred to trial.

The case has triggered wide attention across Sudanese media, with several outlets citing the police statement and calling for accountability over the alleged abuse of the child.
