Boulos holds talks with Norway on a truce in war-torn Sudan

Massad Boulos, senior adviser to the US president on Arab and African affairs, met Norwegian officials to advance a humanitarian truce in Sudan.

Boulos said the talks focused on halting violence between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, as fighting continues across the country.

In a post on X, he said he met Norwegian State Minister Andreas Kravik and Ambassador Anniken Huitfeldt to coordinate ceasefire efforts.

He noted the discussions aimed to build on momentum created by the Sudan Humanitarian Fund’s appeal to support the fragile truce process.

The meeting also addressed steps needed to secure a political transition that would lead Sudan back to full civilian rule.

International efforts are intensifying as Sudan’s war, which erupted in April 2023, shows no sign of ending.

The conflict has killed tens of thousands and displaced around 13 million people inside Sudan and across its borders, UN estimates show.
