Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan visited Damazin, the capital of the Blue Nile region, on Wednesday as fighting intensified between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces-led Founding Alliance.
The visit followed the deployment of substantial SAF reinforcements to the southeastern region, which borders Ethiopia. The military buildup came after the RSF and allied forces launched attacks across several towns and villages in Blue Nile in recent days.
In a statement, the army said Burhan inspected troops from the Fourth Infantry Division and received a briefing on the region’s security and operational situation. It said he also reviewed the division’s combat readiness and preparations for future operations.
Fourth Infantry Division commander Major General Ismail al-Tayeb said Burhan’s visit came at a critical moment, raising troop morale and strengthening the unit’s operational readiness.
Separately, SAF warplanes carried out intensive air strikes against alleged RSF positions in North Darfur. The army claimed the targeted forces had been preparing an offensive against the border town of Tina, near Chad. The claim could not be independently verified.
