Burhan’s air attack on Khartoum mosque leaves many dead

General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army carried out an airstrike on a mosque, resulting in the deaths of seven civilians, a pro-democracy lawyers’ group has reported.

The attack targeted a mosque in Khartoum North, also known as Bahri.

The bombing occurred shortly after Friday noon prayers as worshippers were leaving the mosque.

Emergency Lawyers, who have been documenting the ongoing war, confirmed the death toll and reported several people were wounded.

The local resistance committee also verified the casualties and transported the injured for medical treatment.

This airstrike is part of a pattern of military assaults on civilian areas.

The lawyers have condemned the strike as a “crime against humanity” and a clear violation of international law.

Since the war began in April 2023, over tens of thousands of people have died, and Sudan’s humanitarian crisis has deepened.

Aid agencies warn that the country is on the verge of famine. The conflict has particularly ravaged Sudan’s northeast and western Darfur region, with violence displacing millions.

The United Nations has reported that Sudan now faces the highest levels of child malnutrition in Eastern Africa.

Nearly 3.7 million children and over a million pregnant women are severely malnourished. Experts fear that the majority of the population will require food aid in the coming months.

The conflict between general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo continues, with foreign involvement also under scrutiny.
