Hundreds of Sudanese civilians have reported systematic looting and theft allegedly carried out by General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and allied militias, particularly those linked to Muslim Brotherhood, in the cities of Omdurman and Wad Madani.
Civilians described widespread military chaos in both cities, accusing soldiers of threatening and robbing residents with impunity despite repeated complaints to their superiors.
According to Madameek news outlet, no meaningful actions have been taken to address these grievances.
In Wad Madani, a city recently recaptured by SAF from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), residents claim that al-Burhan’s troops and their allied militias have indiscriminately looted properties. “Everything is now at risk of being stolen,” said one local resident.
Local sources revealed that large quantities of stolen goods have been transported to other towns in Al-Jazirah State, such as Sennar and Al-Managil, where they are reportedly sold in markets. Some looted items are also being sold in Omdurman’s marketplaces. This situation has driven many residents to consider fleeing Omdurman for safer areas.
In Wad Madani, locals have urged their acquaintances to return quickly to safeguard their homes.
In response to the escalating insecurity, Al-Taher Ibrahim Al-Khair, the governor of Al-Jazirah State, imposed a nighttime curfew in Wad Madani from 7 PM to 6 AM in an effort to restore order.
These developments highlight the ongoing instability in Sudan, as military factions and militias exploit the power vacuum to prey on vulnerable civilians, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis.
