Burhan’s forces fight local police amid corruption in Port Sudan

Fierce internal clashes have broken out in Port Sudan between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and local anti-narcotics police.

Eyewitnesses report that several people were killed or injured, including police officers and civilians, as heavy gunfire spread through the Libya Market area.

During the violence, a police vehicle was completely destroyed after being set on fire.

The incident came just hours after another deadly internal dispute in Jebelain, in Sudan’s White Nile State.

In that case, a traffic police officer was shot dead inside his station following a heated disagreement involving members of the joint force.

The confrontation began after armed personnel objected to a legal decision to release a truck driver who had been detained over a previous traffic accident.

The situation escalated when three armed members of the joint force entered the police station, turning an administrative dispute into a fatal shootout.

Sudan’s 70th Brigade later intervened, restoring order and arresting those involved.

The detainees were transferred to the headquarters of the 18th Infantry Division in Kosti, where they are expected to face legal proceedings.

These incidents highlight growing internal fractures within Burhan’s security structures, as the country continues to face a prolonged civil war.

As the conflict enters its fourth year, coordination among security institutions is increasingly strained, raising concerns about further instability.
