Canada has announced more than $120 million in new aid for Sudan at a Berlin conference as the country’s civil war intensifies.
Foreign Minister Anita Anand said credible reports indicate starvation is being used as a weapon of war, while hospitals and civilian infrastructure face repeated attacks.
The funding includes $94 million in humanitarian aid for food, healthcare, shelter, water and sanitation across Sudan and neighbouring countries.
An additional $25 million will support education programmes and child protection initiatives reaching more than 60,000 children affected by conflict.
Canada will also provide $7 million to expand services addressing sexual and gender-based violence in hard-hit regions.
Another $1.25 million is allocated for peacebuilding and civilian-led stabilisation efforts.
Anand urged a ceasefire and unhindered aid access, calling for a credible path towards civilian-led peace.
Sudan’s war, which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced around 13 million people.
