Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Monday, condemning remarks made by Yasser Al-Atta, Deputy Commander of General al-Burhan’s army (SAF), calling them a “declaration of war” against Chad.
The statement emphasized Chad’s right to defend its sovereignty.
Al-Atta, speaking at a condolence gathering in Sudan’s eastern Qadarif state, had declared that the airports of Am Jarras and N’Djamena were now “legitimate military targets” for the SAF.
Chad’s statement considered these remarks a direct threat to its national security, warning that such statements could escalate tensions in the entire region.
The Chadian Foreign Ministry accused Sudan of attempting to destabilize Chad through “terrorist methods,” asserting that Chad would respond firmly to any aggression against its territory.
The statement further emphasized, “Any threat to even an inch of Chadian land will be met with a decisive response, in line with international legal principles.”
Chad reiterated its stance of neutrality in Sudan’s internal conflict, stating its ongoing efforts to address the suffering of the Sudanese people, who have endured nearly two years of turmoil. It clarified that the crisis in Sudan was an internal matter, with responsibility lying solely with the warring factions.
The Chadian Ministry also urged Sudanese military leaders to focus on an immediate ceasefire rather than issuing “senseless threats.”
