Clashes erupt between Libyan Army and Burhan’s SAF at border

Armed clashes broke out near the Sudan-Libya border between Libyan Army forces and Sudanese factions loyal to General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF), according to Sudanese sources cited by Libya’s Alwasat news outlet.

The confrontation reportedly occurred after Libyan troops, allegedly affiliated with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, engaged in combat with pro-SAF forces positioned near the remote desert crossing.

At least one Sudanese fighter was captured, and casualties were confirmed, though precise numbers remain undisclosed.

The border has grown increasingly volatile since Libya shut it down last month after the kidnapping of three of its citizens. Entry of Sudanese refugees and commercial traffic has also been suspended.

The tri-border region between Sudan, Libya, and Egypt remains largely under the control of SAF and allied armed movements.

However, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue to hold vast swathes of territory from northern Darfur to the Zuruq desert outskirts.
