Rapid Support Forces commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has ordered a major reorganisation of his forces in North Kordofan following recent battlefield setbacks, as reinforcements move east from Darfur and the desert front, informed sources told Darfur24.
The sources said Dagalo, widely known as Hemedti, had cancelled several scheduled meetings and commitments to focus closely on military operations in North Kordofan as the RSF seeks to regain the battlefield initiative.
Dagalo was reportedly dissatisfied with the performance of several commanders operating around Bara and Jabra al-Sheikh and has introduced new arrangements to manage operations in those areas without placing them under the commanders’ direct supervision.
The RSF has dispatched reinforcements from Darfur and the desert axis towards Kordofan. The Dar Hamar Emergency platform said on Tuesday that more than 200 RSF combat vehicles had passed through the town of Al-Mazroub while travelling east.
Sources said the RSF had also begun regrouping fighters who withdrew from Umm Sayala, Bara and Jabra al-Sheikh, while preparing reserve units and additional forces arriving from the desert front as part of a wider restructuring of the North Kordofan axis.
Dagalo also expressed anger during a meeting of the Security and Defence Council affiliated with the Transitional Peace Government over what he regarded as compliance with international demands not to attack certain towns and adherence to an undeclared truce, according to the sources.
A heightened state of military mobilisation has been reported in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, where officers and commanders serving in administrative positions or on leave were instructed to return to their units and join forces deployed on the front lines.
Dagalo further ordered that units from other military fronts should not move without prior coordination, with the RSF concentrating its available reinforcements on North Kordofan.
An RSF security source told Darfur24 that no final order had yet been issued to launch attacks on the targeted towns. The source said any ground offensive would depend on the completion of preliminary missions being carried out by drones.
