Representatives of the Forces of the Declaration of Principles met UN envoy Pekka Haavisto in Nairobi to discuss Sudan’s crisis.
They warned that any dialogue failing to first halt fighting and protect civilians risks entrenching division and legitimizing power on the ground.
Their objection, they clarified, targets not dialogue itself but the framework proposed by Sudanese Armed Forces General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan for talks.
Launching a political process from a single warring faction, they said, would merely reproduce unilateral control over state institutions.
They demanded a broader process built on a ceasefire, civilian protection, humanitarian relief, and the restoration of unified state institutions.
The delegation also briefed Haavisto on growing convergence among anti-war forces following consultations held recently in Addis Ababa.
They raised reservations about the five-party mechanism’s working methodology, while stressing openness to engagement under clearer, agreed terms.
Haavisto reaffirmed her readiness to support efforts preserving Sudan’s unity and advancing a sustainable civilian democratic transition.
