Drone strike injures dozens at funeral in South Kordofan, Sudan

A Darfur victims’ advocacy group said a drone strike hit mourners attending a funeral in Al-Sunut locality, South Kordofan state, injuring dozens of civilians.

The Sudanese group said the attack occurred in Payam Kasha in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains region, based on testimonies from eyewitnesses, survivors and relatives.

At least 38 people were wounded as panic spread following the aerial strike, with several victims reported in critical condition after being taken to nearby medical centres.

Witnesses said a drone belonging to General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army carried out the attack.

The organisation urged the UN Security Council to act urgently to protect civilians and halt ongoing military operations, warning that escalating violence is worsening Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.
