Egypt seeks full humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan amid regional instability

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said Sudan’s crisis was at the top of his discussions with European leaders, alongside regional files such as Libya and irregular migration.

Sisi, whose government has been reported to back General al-Burhan’s army (SAF), said in closing remarks at the Egypt–EU summit that Egypt is pressing for a ceasefire and is looking to work with the international Quartet and the European Union to announce a comprehensive humanitarian truce that would ease civilians’ suffering.

He added that Cairo is coordinating with regional and international partners to preserve Sudan’s unity and the integrity of its state institutions, and to prevent a slide into chaos or the risk of partition—stressing that Sudan’s stability is essential to the wider region’s security.
