Failed assassination attempt against Sudanese activist in Addis Ababa

A prominent Sudanese activist has survived an attempted assassination in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Hisham Ali Mohamed Ali, widely known as “Wad Galba”, was attacked on the evening of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, after being stabbed by unidentified assailants. According to available details, a group intercepted him and inflicted stab wounds to his arm and abdomen before fleeing the scene.

The activist was rushed to hospital, where he underwent urgent medical treatment. Medical sources confirmed that his condition is stable and expected him to be discharged within hours.

The attack comes only hours after information circulated confirming that Wad Galba continues to publish sensitive corruption files known as the “Devil Series”. These disclosures reportedly expose the involvement of influential figures and businessmen close to Sudan’s military leadership in money laundering and suspicious financial deals.

Wad Galba has previously faced repeated harassment. Ethiopian authorities detained him in July 2024 following complaints submitted by Sudanese parties, before later releasing him. In 2018, he was forcibly deported from Saudi Arabia to Sudan, where he was arrested and subjected to torture in the prisons of the former regime.

Ethiopian security authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible, amid growing concern over the targeting of Sudanese activists who have fled the war and sought refuge in neighbouring countries.
