Founding Alliance secures Abu Qumra, advances in North Darfur

Forces of the Founding Alliance (Tasis) have established full control over the Abu Qumra area in North Darfur state and continued their advance to the Um Buro region, declaring both areas fully secured after what they described as the removal of remaining armed elements and mercenary groups.

In a statement, the alliance said the two areas had recently witnessed what it called systematic attacks and retaliatory acts carried out by forces affiliated with the Islamist movement’s army and the so-called “Joint Forces,” which it accused of directly targeting traditional community leaders and a number of civilians.

The alliance sought to reassure residents in the affected areas that civilians are not targets of its operations, stressing that it is fully aware of the suffering endured by local communities as a result of years of war, killings, displacement, and forced migration. It said residents are an integral part of the Sudanese people and are entitled to freedom, justice, and a safe and dignified life.

The alliance said its primary mission is the protection of civilians, the elimination of remaining armed pockets, and an end to reprisals and insecurity. It called on local residents to cooperate in securing markets and public and private facilities and to help remove security threats.

The forces also praised what they described as the high level of awareness shown by local communities in rejecting rhetoric of racism and hatred, which the statement said is promoted by Islamist-linked actors and mercenary leaders who have lost public support.

The alliance confirmed that it has deployed military units to protect civilians and secure roads and public spaces in the Karnoi locality and surrounding areas, with the aim of restoring normal life. It added that federal police forces are expected to assume responsibility for law enforcement at a later stage, once necessary arrangements are completed and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to residents is facilitated.
