SAF junta in North Kordofan arrested four university academics in Al-Obeid on Saturday, accusing them of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to sources who spoke with Darfur 24.
Those detained include Professor Abu Obeida, Dr. Omar Al-Basha, Dr. Khalida Obeidallah, and a fourth unnamed doctor. Witnesses say the arrests took place across the city: Professor Obeida was seized at the Kordofan Academy, Dr. Al-Basha on Al-Dakatra Street downtown, while the location of Dr. Obeidallah’s arrest remains unclear.
The Joint Security Cell, which includes SAF intelligence, police, and other armed forces under General al-Burhan’s junta, has not issued formal charges or publicized evidence, but sources say the group suspects the detainees of aiding the RSF.
The arrests come amid a wave of detentions targeting civilians and displaced persons from South Kordofan, particularly the embattled town of Al-Dabaibat, where clashes between the RSF General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) have intensified in recent weeks.
A displaced person arrested earlier told Darfur 24 that security forces in Al-Obeid are conducting daily sweeps, especially focusing on arrivals from Debaibat and the Al-Qouz locality, accusing them—often without formal process—of RSF sympathies.
