General al-Burhan’s SAF detains 2 doctors in Wad Madani

General al-Burhan’s security forces have re-arrested a prominent surgeon in the city of Wad Madani, while another doctor remains in detention, the Sudan Doctors Syndicate said Sunday.

In a statement, the syndicate’s Preliminary Committee said Dr. Adam Mohammed Ibrahim, a surgical consultant, was detained again after his previous release. Authorities accused him of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The committee noted that Ibrahim had remained in Wad Madani to provide medical care after the RSF took control of the city.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nafisa Abdel Rahman, a resident doctor, has been held for more than a week, the statement said. The committee called for her immediate release, saying little information was available about the circumstances of her arrest.

The syndicate emphasized that doctors, like many civilians, had chosen to stay in the city amid clashes between General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the RSF. It underscored that medical professionals have a duty to provide care without discrimination, regardless of the conflict.

The committee urged Sudan’s military authorities to end the targeting of doctors and health facilities, warning that such actions worsen the humanitarian crisis in a war-ravaged country where the health system is near collapse.

It held security officials in Wad Madani responsible for the well-being of both detained doctors and reiterated its demand for their immediate release.
