A severe heatwave swept across Sudan on Friday, driving temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country.
Egyptian meteorologist Zaki Al-Masry said extremely dry conditions and very low humidity levels are intensifying the heat.
Eastern Sudan recorded the highest temperatures, with readings nearing 44 degrees Celsius.
The intense heat affected key cities and towns including Gedaref, Kassala and New Halfa.
Along the Red Sea coast, cooler maritime winds helped moderate temperatures while increasing humidity.
Western regions, including Kordofan and Darfur, also experienced hot weather, with some cloud cover reported in the far south.
In Blue Nile and Sennar states, temperatures climbed to between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius.
Forecasters said there is a slight chance of light to moderate rainfall in southern parts of Blue Nile State.
According to Al-Masry, the heatwave is being driven by the continued presence of hot, dry continental air masses over Sudan.
Residents across the country are hoping for a change in weather patterns as the intense late-May heat continues.
