The head of Sudan’s Peace and Unity Government Presidential Council and commander of the Rapid Support Forces, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has met with a senior delegation of leaders and elders from the Awlad Umm Ati tribe.
The meeting focused on strengthening community stability, supporting social peace, addressing humanitarian conditions and promoting peaceful coexistence among Sudanese communities.
Dagalo praised what he described as the tribe’s historic and national role in encouraging coexistence and strengthening relations between Sudan’s different social groups.
He urged traditional leaders to launch community initiatives aimed at repairing the country’s social fabric and preventing attempts to inflame tribal tensions, stressing that lasting security depends on public awareness and cohesion among local communities.
The two sides also discussed mechanisms to secure and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, protect livestock migration routes and improve coordination to safeguard the movement of herders and farmers.
They said such measures were necessary to prevent clashes and ensure the safety of the agricultural season.
The meeting also called for tribal leaders and community elders to play a greater role in resolving local disputes through customary mediation and traditional reconciliation processes.
Members of the Awlad Umm Ati delegation expressed their full support for efforts to expand security, stability and the rule of law.
They also said the tribe’s elders and young people were ready to participate in peace and national reconciliation committees and to work alongside the Peace and Unity Government to protect the agricultural season.
