A massive fire swept through the Sudan’s Bahri industrial area on Saturday, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and engulfing two major factories.
The blaze broke out inside the Royal Five Star Paints factory, where flames quickly spread through containers filled with highly flammable raw materials.
Witnesses said the fire rapidly consumed large sections of the facility before spreading to a nearby warehouse belonging to Adam Abbas Plastics.
Khartoum State authorities said the regional governor is at the scene overseeing efforts to contain the fire.
Three civil defence units are working to stop the flames from spreading to other nearby industrial sites.
Firefighters have faced difficulties due to the intense heat and the chemical nature of the materials, forcing them to use specialised equipment and high-pressure water hoses.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether there were any casualties or provided an estimate of the financial losses.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to begin once the site has cooled.
The Bahri industrial zone remains on high alert as emergency teams continue operations to prevent further flare-ups.
