Sudanese military intelligence personnel caused the only operating fuel station in Wadi Halfa to suspend services for about an hour on Thursday, according to local sources cited by Sudanese media.
The incident occurred at the Benta fuel station in the Northern State city as Sudan continues to face severe fuel shortages.
Local sources told Al-Rakoba that members of the Sudanese army’s military intelligence, travelling in civilian vehicles, disrupted traffic and interfered with the system used to organise motorists waiting for fuel.
According to the report, one military intelligence officer bypassed the entire queue and parked directly in front of a fuel pump, insisting that his vehicle be filled without waiting his turn.
The confrontation brought operations at the station to a standstill for about an hour, leaving motorists unable to obtain fuel and prompting anger among residents who had been waiting in long queues.
The incident comes amid a worsening nationwide fuel crisis that has driven up prices and disrupted transport and economic activity in several parts of Sudan.
There was no immediate public statement from the Sudanese army or military intelligence regarding the incident.
