Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minawi has called for an end to Sudan’s long-running cycles of conflict and the creation of a state based on justice, equality and strong institutions.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Minawi said Sudan’s people have suffered unprecedented loss of life, displacement and hardship.
He said the country must avoid repeating past mistakes and move away from political systems based on revenge, domination or tribal loyalties.
Minawi stressed the need for an independent judiciary and said public authorities must operate under the law, with equal rights and accountability for crimes.
He described the ongoing war as a decisive struggle for Sudan’s survival and said future governance must put citizenship and democratic principles first.
Minawi said history will judge today’s leaders by whether they helped rebuild a stable Sudan or stood by as the country collapsed.
