The medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has raised alarms over a dire humanitarian situation in a refugee camp located in the Sudanese state of North Darfur.
MSF reported that the camp, Zamzam, near the city of Fasher, has surpassed all emergency thresholds for malnutrition, emphasizing the urgent need for an immediate increase in international aid.
Tragically, MSF revealed that at least one child is losing their life every two hours in the Zamzam camp.
This alarming situation is a consequence of the ongoing war between Sudan’s regular army and the Rapid Support Force, resulting in the displacement of approximately eight million people since April of the preceding year.
The World Food Programme estimates that nearly five million individuals throughout Sudan are currently experiencing emergency levels of hunger. This figure represents a twofold increase since the onset of the conflict.
Despite these escalating challenges, the humanitarian efforts have only managed to provide essential aid to 10% of those in need within the conflict-affected areas, according to MSF.
The plea for increased international assistance is crucial to address the escalating crisis and alleviate the suffering of the affected population.
