Some areas in Sudan have regained internet access after a week of complete blackout, although many regions remain offline.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), engaged in conflict with the army, had previously denied any involvement in cutting services nationwide.
Netblocks, an internet freedom watchdog, reports that one network has been restored. However, only four out of Sudan’s 18 states, as indicated by journalist Tayseer Elbdawi, have seen the return of online connectivity.
The blackout has hindered access to essential services, including money transfers, raising concerns about the potential for both sides in the conflict to commit atrocities amid the communication breakdown.
Both the RSF and the military consistently deny such allegations.
