Presidents Ruto and Embalo call for peace in Sudan, DRC

During a state visit by Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embalo to Kenya, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to fostering peace and stability in conflict-ridden regions of Africa, particularly Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

President Embalo and Kenyan President William Ruto held discussions on regional and international issues, expressing deep concern over the ongoing conflicts in Sudan and the escalating violence in eastern DRC.

“My brother and I expressed deep concern about the raging conflicts in Sudan and Eastern DRC and implore all parties to cease hostilities and forge a path to peaceful settlement of the issues,” Ruto stated.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of regional stability for the development of Africa and reiterated their commitment to supporting peace initiatives and enhancing regional cooperation.

In a separate development, the African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, expressed grave concern over the worsening security and humanitarian situation in the DRC, urging all parties to agree to a ceasefire and end hostilities immediately.

The UN has reported that over 7 million people have been internally displaced in the DRC due to the ongoing conflict, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

This visit underscores the growing recognition of the need for concerted regional efforts to address the complex challenges facing Africa, including conflict, instability, and humanitarian crises.
