Local sources reported on Thursday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have released a number of detainees from the town of Muhajiriya in East Darfur state, including a prominent community leader.
The release followed the arrival of tribal elders and local leaders from Muhajiriya to Nyala, where they held meetings with RSF officials, according to the sources.
The RSF had arrested 16 community figures and young men from Muhajiriya on January 21, including tribal leader Omar Adeibo and Ahmed Jadu. They were transferred at the time to Nyala.
Sources told Darfur24 that the release came after a community-led mediation effort, with a delegation from the area traveling to Nyala to negotiate their freedom. The sources added that financial payments were made as part of the mediation, though the amounts were not disclosed. No formal charges were filed against those released.
