Refugees sleep on streets in Burhan-controlled Port Sudan

In the shadow of a relentless 21-month conflict between the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Port Sudan has become a refuge for thousands.

Families displaced multiple times cling to survival amidst dire conditions.

Since April 2023, the war has devastated Sudan, with the capital Khartoum and other regions witnessing widespread destruction.

Infrastructure, health services, education, and the economy have crumbled, leaving millions in despair.

The United Nations reports over 20,000 deaths, 3 million refugees crossing borders, and nearly 9 million displaced within Sudan.

The displacement crisis has reached unparalleled levels.

In Port Sudan, dozens of families, encompassing hundreds of individuals, have sought shelter and basic necessities.

Shelter manager Tuka Bad Emin Ali explained that many arrived destitute, sleeping on the streets.

UNICEF and other international organizations have stepped in, providing water, sanitation, and schooling for children.
