The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been accused of stealing 70 camels belonging to a resident south of Al-Khuwei in Sudan’s West Kordofan state, according to a local emergency response official.
Suleiman Abu Humaida, spokesperson for the Central En Nahud Emergency Room, told local Sudanese media that the animals were taken on Tuesday and had not been recovered as of Wednesday.
Abu Humaida said residents had been searching for the camels and tracking those believed to have taken them on foot because fuel shortages had left them unable to use vehicles.
He called for the livestock to be returned to its owner.
The RSF has not publicly commented on the incident. In previous statements concerning Al-Khuwei, the force has said its fighters are committed to protecting civilians and safeguarding public and private property.
Al-Khuwei lies in West Kordofan between El Obeid and En Nahud along the Western Salvation Road, a strategically important route through the Kordofan region. The RSF has previously announced that it established full control over the area.
