RSF accuses Burhan’s army over Chad border drone attack

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sunday condemned the second drone strike on the Adré border crossing.

In a statement, the RSF accused General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Muslim Brotherhood of carrying out the attack.

The Adré crossing, which links Sudan and Chad, is a key route for humanitarian aid and commercial supplies amid the country’s protracted conflict.

The RSF said the strike was aimed at disrupting relief deliveries and blocking assistance to civilians in war-affected areas.

It warned that repeated attacks on the crossing could endanger aid workers and threaten thousands of civilians who depend on cross-border support.

The group described the incident as a breach of international humanitarian law and an assault on civilian infrastructure.

It called on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to condemn the attack and take urgent measures in response.

The RSF also urged regional and international actors to ensure accountability and prevent those responsible from evading justice.

The statement criticised what it termed international silence, saying it risked encouraging further strikes on civilian and humanitarian facilities.

Clashes between the RSF and Burhan’s have pushed Sudan into a worsening humanitarian crisis since April 2023.

Aid organisations have repeatedly warned that any disruption to border crossings could deepen shortages of food, medicine and other essential supplies.
