RSF carries out drone strikes against Sudan army HQ in Shendi

Sudan’s armed forces deployed anti-aircraft missiles on Tuesday to intercept RSF drones targeting its headquarters in Shendi, according to witnesses and military sources.

The drone assualt on army HQ marks the latest in a series of such attacks in Shendi.

None of the drones managed to reach their intended target, the army sources claimed.

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan’s army, had reportedly arrived in Shendi on Monday, as per army media.

However, his current whereabouts in the area remain unclear.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan pits the army against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as they vie for control over the vast North African nation.

This recent drone assault represents the third targeting areas firmly under army jurisdiction. Previous attacks have struck the city of Atbara, also in River Nile state, and al-Gedaref state to the east.

Both the army and the RSF have utilized drones in the year-long conflict, though the RSF has not claimed responsibility for any of the assaults.

Residents of Shendi expressed heightened concern and panic in the wake of these attacks.

The protracted conflict has led to dire warnings of famine, the displacement of millions, and thousands of casualties.

There are mounting fears that the conflict may escalate to al-Fashir, the army’s last stronghold in the Darfur region, potentially triggering a catastrophic humanitarian situation.
