RSF claims ‘notable’ victory in Sudan’s Omdurman

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces in a statement released on Tuesday claimed victory over the Sudan Army and allied militias from the former regime in various areas of Omdurman, Sudan’s second-largest city.

“The RSF successfully engaged and neutralized the SAF and its backers from the former regime, inflicting significant casualties,” RSF statement read.

The Sudanese group said initial reports indicated that at least 174 army personnel had been killed and over 300 wounded, with the injured being taken to hospitals in Omdurman.

“An additional 83 detainees were taken into custody, the majority of whom were identified as members of the Popular Defense Brigades and the Mujaheddin.”

The army and its allied militias attempted to infiltrate and attack RSF positions in the city but were repelled by RSF soldiers, the group said.

“Army and its allies fled, leaving behind their wounded, dead bodies, equipment, and vehicles, which are now being inventoried.”

Sudan has been ravaged by clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since April, in a conflict that killed more than 3,000 civilians and injured thousands, according to local medics.
