RSF claims progress in El Fasher after clashes with SAF

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have announced substantial gains in their efforts to take control of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, following intense clashes with General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Joint Force on Thursday night.

In a statement, the RSF reported that its “Tofan – Deluge” division entered El Fasher on Thursday evening, successfully capturing key strategic sites and advancing towards the headquarters of the Sixth Infantry Division. The RSF emphasized that its forces had surrounded the city from all directions, making significant progress in the heart of El Fasher.

The RSF had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the SAF and Joint Force fighters, demanding their surrender and safe evacuation from the city. The deadline expired on Thursday, with video clips showing multiple responses to the RSF’s demands circulating on social media.

Additionally, the RSF noted that armed movements led by Gibril Ibrahim and Minni Arcua Minnawi had abandoned their neutrality and aligned with the SAF against the RSF. This shift in allegiance has voided the prior agreement, which had barred the RSF from entering El Fasher and called for a joint force to protect the city.
