Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) mourn the tragic loss of journalist Muawiya Abdel Razek, who was killed on Wednesday by al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and allied extremist militias in Khartoum State, the group announced on Thursday.
RSF said a special operation team of al-Burhan-dominated SAF assassinated Razek and three others at their home in al-Doroshab.
RSF blamed al-Burhan’s forces for attempting to evade accountability for the murder of Razek by falsely accusing the RSF of the crime.
“We call on union associations, humanitarian organizations, and the media to investigate these events. Our doors are open for communication and verification of information and data,” RSF said.
“We express our condolences to the family of Razek and Sudanese journalists. We urge organizations concerned with freedom of opinion and expression to combat organized terrorist operations, intimidation, and the illegal detention of journalists by the SAF.”
Sudan has been mired by fighting between the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who is the head of the ruling Sovereign Council, and the RSF.
At least 13,900 people have been killed and more than eight million displaced in the conflict that started in April 2023, according to UN figures.
Several cease-fire agreements brokered by Saudi Arabia and US mediators have failed to end the violence.
