RSF delegation meets ICRC director in Geneva to discuss aid crisis

A high-level delegation from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Brigadier General Omar Hamdan, convened with Patrick Youssef, the regional director of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva yesterday.

The meeting focused on addressing the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan and exploring ways to bolster ICRC operations amid ongoing conflict.

During the discussions, the RSF delegation expressed commendation for the ICRC’s sustained efforts since the outbreak of the war in Sudan.

They also conveyed profound regret over a recent attack by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on an ICRC mission in Al-Shajara, which occurred during the evacuation of the Sisters of the Blessed Mary Church.

The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of two ICRC staff members and injuries to seven others.

The RSF delegation reaffirmed their commitment to supporting ICRC activities within RSF-controlled areas. They highlighted the need for enhanced coordination and joint efforts in training and capacity building to improve the protection of civilians.
