The Rapid Support Forces launched a major security operation across Nyala, according to local reports.
Witnesses described it as the largest campaign of its kind in South Darfur’s capital.
Armoured vehicles and checkpoints were deployed across major streets, while security forces searched vehicles and seized unlicensed weapons.
Men wearing “kadmoul” turbans were stopped and ordered to remove them as forces targeted concealed identities and unauthorised weapons.
A civil administration official said the campaign aimed to restore public order, protect property and improve security.
Former Rapid Support Forces fighters operating outside official command structures were also targeted, he said.
Traders said the heavy security presence eased concerns and made them feel safer about protecting their businesses.
The operation follows a wider security buildup in Nyala that began a week ago, amid increased political activity in the city.
Nyala has hosted the Rapid Support Forces’ government since July 26, while Sudan’s war continues to reshape life across Darfur.
