The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have issued a statement on its social media account X, expressing full solidarity with the famine victims in Darfur, accusing Al Burhan’s army (SAF) and his militias of using starvation as a weapon.
The RSF said the groups are obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid, exacerbating the crisis in Darfur and other regions.
The RSF calls for immediate international intervention to save millions from starvation, a plea supported by the US Ambassador to the United Nations.
The RSF reiterates its commitment to the positions outlined in a letter from their commander to the UN Secretary-General. The Forces emphasized the need for an urgent humanitarian response program, dubbed “Lifeline,” to address the famine threatening their people.
The statement holds the Islamic Movement, which leads the armed forces, responsible for using food as a weapon of war.
The RSF underlined a public speech by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan who reportedly stated that aid would not be allowed into areas under RSF control.
The RSF stressed its dedication to facilitating humanitarian aid delivery and called for a joint mechanism with the UN to ensure civilian protection and address aid delivery challenges.
The RSF appealed to the United Nations and its agencies to fulfill their moral responsibilities and expedite aid delivery.
The statement advocated for using all border crossings under their control, particularly the Adre crossing, to ensure aid reaches those in need swiftly.
RSF also proposed appointing a UN humanitarian affairs coordinator in areas they control to enhance cooperation and communication with the hope of relaxing the situation in the Zamzam camp.
It also called for holding accountable those who manipulated the crossing areas.
