About 40 soldiers from General al-Burhan’s SAF 6th Infantry Division in El Fasher arrived in Ed Daein, the capital of East Darfur, after recently surrendering to Rapid Support Forces (RSF) units in El Fasher, according to sources who spoke to Darfur24.
The group traveled in two batches: one via Nyala in South Darfur, and the other through Kalaju in Sheiria locality and Muhajeriya in East Darfur, a source said on condition of anonymity.
Community figures and other local sources said the soldiers received written assurances from RSF elements in El Fasher on two conditions: that they either join the RSF or take civilian status and refrain from any hostile activity against it. The sources added that relatives in East Darfur also provided prior guarantees that the men would not face detention or prosecution upon arrival, noting that most of them are natives of the state.
Since May 2024, RSF forces have imposed a siege on El Fasher amid fighting between SAF and allied Islamist movements on one side and the RSF on the other.
