Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Monday they had regained full control of the Kazgeil and al-Riyash areas in North Kordofan after heavy clashes with General al-Burhan’s army (SAF), and that the advances opened multiple axes toward the state capital, El Obeid.
The RSF claim follows a week of seesaw fighting around the same localities, where a senior RSF commander was reported killed, and amid broader battles on approaches to El Obeid, a strategic hub on the road network linking Kordofan and Darfur. Local outlets and monitors have described repeated assaults and counter-assaults south of the city.
Pro-SAF sources have countered that Port Sudan junta forces repelled RSF attacks and retained control of parts of the area—illustrating fluid front lines and conflicting battlefield narratives.
The RSF has also publicized gains near El Obeid in recent days on its official channels, while independent Sudanese media have reported intensified shelling and displacement across Kordofan.
