The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have accused General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) of committing brutal crimes against civilians in Khartoum, releasing video footage purportedly showing soldiers executing unarmed individuals and mutilating their bodies.
The RSF statement alleges that extremist elements within the SAF carried out the killings, chanting religious slogans as they beheaded victims.
The alleged atrocities occurred following the redeployment of RSF units in parts of the capital. In one widely circulated video, armed men in military uniforms were seen executing a young civilian, while another clip reportedly showed a group of soldiers shooting a man in the head at close range.
The RSF condemned the killings, calling them acts of ethnic cleansing and violations of international law.
The SAF has not publicly responded to the allegations. Sudan has been gripped by a nearly yearlong war between the RSF and SAF, with both sides accused of committing abuses against civilians. Rights groups and international organizations have called for an independent investigation into the alleged war crimes.
The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has displaced millions and exacerbated an already dire humanitarian crisis in the country.
