Samoud warns Sudan faces collapse as Islamist influence grows

A Sudanese opposition has warned that the ongoing war risks breaking the country apart, calling on Europe to address Islamist influence that he says is blocking peace efforts.

Khalid Omar Youssef said millions have been displaced and essential services have collapsed, describing the situation as one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

He added that the conflict is expanding, with air strikes and drone attacks increasingly targeting civilian infrastructure.

Youssef also warned that Sudan is becoming a stage for foreign intervention, raising fragmentation and broader regional instability.

He called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, alongside coordinated international action to stabilise the country.

According to Youssef, achieving lasting peace will require tackling Islamist influence within state institutions.

He further urged the European Union to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation in an effort to curb its political role.
