At least four people were wounded in armed clashes between Sudanese military intelligence personnel and fighters aligned with the army in Roseires, Blue Nile region, exposing tensions among groups supporting the military.
Local Sudanese media reported on Thursday that the confrontation erupted near the city’s health insurance administration building, involving military intelligence personnel and an armed group associated with the late Abu Jalabiya.
Most members of the group reportedly originate from the Tayba al-Balilab area near Roseires.
According to a source close to the fighters, an earlier disagreement between members of the two sides had initially been resolved before tensions resurfaced.
The dispute escalated when armed members of the group blocked a road in the area, leading to an exchange of gunfire with military intelligence personnel.
At least two army personnel and two civilians sustained gunshot wounds, according to the report.
The fighting caused panic among residents and heightened concerns about security inside the city.
The circumstances surrounding the confrontation, including which side opened fire, remain unclear.
The incident comes as the Blue Nile region faces escalating military pressure from the RSF and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu.
Fighting has intensified across the region’s eastern areas in recent days, bringing hostilities closer to Roseires and the regional capital, Damazin.
The confrontation inside Roseires highlights another security challenge for the army, as tensions among its own allied groups threaten stability in areas under military control.
